DHT is known to contribute to both male & female pattern baldness. It binds to scalp hair
follicle receptors, causing them to shrink.  Saw palmetto is believed to act by blocking the
formation of DHT. It is believed to act in a similar way to the medication finasteride, which is
commonly given to men as the drug Propecia in order to treat male baldness. Remember Propecia is
never given to females as it causes birth defects and also to people with hormone related cancer.
